ABOUT · OOR ONS

Voces Libres means “free voices”

The name is Spanish for “free voices”: room for each singer’s own expression within a shared sound, and the freedom to interpret music with imagination. Founded in 2023 and based in Bedfordview, the choir brings together adult singers from as far as Sasolburg and Pretoria.

We sing sacred and classical works, contemporary choral music and music from South Africa and around the world — in concert halls and churches, at community events and with other choirs and ensembles.

Christelle is a choral conductor and collaborative pianist. She has conducted the North West Children’s Choir, the Cantare Children’s Choir and the Brescia House High School Choir, and regularly leads workshops for conductors and choristers.

As Programme Director at the Choral Celebration Network Foundation, she runs the Summa Cum Laude on Tour international choir and orchestra competition and the CCNF Prestige Concert Series. Her research explores what makes a chamber music concert meaningful for its audience.

“Beyond their love of singing, our members are kind, passionate people who care about how music can make their lives — and others’ lives — better. That’s what makes this choir special: we always sing from a place of love.”
